Mixed feelings. Some teachers are patient and genuinely supportive. But others clearly show bias and treat students differently. There were moments of ignorance and microaggressions that made students feel uncomfortable and excluded. In a language school with student from diverse backgrounds, this kind of behavior is really disappointing. No one should have to deal with the prejudice from the teacher who is supposed to help them learn
A1-A2 level classes are decent, but the progress in B1 and above courses is slow, and one of the teacher is particularly arrogant and rude
Attention attention! the learning was okay and pleasant but the admin was far from satisfactory. They charged quite a bit to handle the booking of the student accommodation (Residence Allix) without noting in the receipts how the handling fee were allocated as if all was for the accommodation fee and accommodation were paid in advance along with the tuition fees. When I got to the accommodation it asked me to pay for a full month of accommodation again (although my summer course and stay only allowed me for 2 week stay). However this full month accommodation was actually way less than the 2 weeks I was charged by AF in advance. My payment to the accommodation on site was obviously a doubled up payment so I asked AF admin and the man at the AF front desk seemed to be aware of this double handling, which must have happened regularly. All he did was directed me to speak to the accommodation directly and asked for a refund. I did that with a fair bit of difficulties (being a level A1 summer course student) but managed to get through the message and followed up with an email to both the admin/finance email address of Allix and AF. I got an acknowledgement from Allix saying the refund will be done and this happened in early August 2024. AF admin did not respond to my email and a follow up email weeks later asking for a"courtesy response" also been ignored. I'm writing this today because I was told in another subsequent follow up directly with Allix that the refund would take up to 2 months from my departure of the accommodation (which obviously was their policy for all occupants to refund their accommodation deposit but mine wasn't a deposit but a doubled up one month staying charge assuming AF did pay them from what I paid AF ). In any event 2 months has since passed, I neither received my refund nor further response to my subsequent follow email from Allix. Though it's not a lot of money and I possibly will have to accept that being now back home for 2 months half the globe away from Lyon, AF could have done better to help having charged over 25% of the accommodation fees for the handling in the first place. Updates: I finally got this resolved on 25 Oct via AF who coordinated with Allix residence to resolve that AF reimbursed me instead.
